SUMMARY:Closed on Columbus Day
DESCRIPTION:The Bellaire Public Library will be closed on Columbus Day\, Monday\, October 13th\, 2025. Regular library hours will resume on Tuesday\, October 14th. \nWhile many now celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the second Monday of October\, many Italian communities view Columbus Day as an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Italian Americans to the country. Bellarie\, Ohio\, has a proud Italian heritage\, preserved by the descendants of an immigrant community who arrived in the early 1900s\, seeking work in coal mines and glass factories\, bringing their Italian culture with them. The local Bellaire Sons of Italy Lodge (Lodge #754) has been a pillar of the Italian community since its chartering in 1917\, providing a space for social events\, cultural classes\, and fundraising for other organizations.  \nRemember that while the Library closes for holidays\, our digital services are always available 24/7 with your library card. Don’t have a BPL card? If you’re a Belmont County resident\, you can get a digital library card. With your digital card\, you can check out books through the Ohio Digital Library through the Libby app on your smartphone or tablet\, or on your laptop or computer at https://ohdbks.overdrive.com/.

SUMMARY:Library Closed on Juneteenth
DESCRIPTION:The Bellaire Public Library closes annually on June 19th in observance of Juneteenth\, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery and recognizing freedom and emancipation in the United States. \nJuneteenth\, the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the United States\, is observed every year on June 19\, the day the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved people in Galveston\, Texas\, in 1865. The 13th Amendment\, ratified in 1865\, abolished slavery throughout the United States. \nJuneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. \n\n  \nBooks Anytime Online\n \nWhile the Library will be closed for the holiday\, access to our digital services is always available remotely. SUMMARY:Library Closed on Presidents Day
DESCRIPTION:The Library will be closed on Presidents’ Day\, Monday\, February 17. \nFun fact: Did you know the official Federal holiday is actually called Washington’s Birthday? In 1885\, Congress designated February 22\, George Washington’s birthday\, as a holiday for all federal workers making it the first federal holiday to honor an individual’s birth date. Nearly a century later\, in 1971\, the Uniform Monday Holiday Law changed the date to the third Monday in February. The position of the holiday between the birthdays of Washington and Abraham Lincoln gave rise to the popular name of Presidents’ Day. Today’s fun fact is brought to you by the National Archives (https://www.archives.gov/news/topics/washingtons-birthday). \n\nWhile the Library is closed for the holiday\, our digital collections are available 24/7. Download e-books\, stream audiobooks\, and e-magazine through the Ohio Digital Library where over 150 titles are available about U.S. Presidents!
