The Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society
The Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society is an Ohio non-profit corporation chartered in 2012 as a qualified tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. The goal of the Society is to promote the rich local history of Belmont County Ohio and surrounding areas, and to provide educational opportunities for others to learn and experience that history through a variety of activities sponsored by the Society. The Society has chosen the “Great Stone Viaduct” for its name since this iconic stone arcade bridge structure is associated with our headquarters in Bellaire, Ohio, and the rich railroad history of the community.
Since 2012, the library has partnered with the Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society on a Winter Lecture Series. These programs, featuring presentations of local historical and community topics, are held on Wednesday nights at 6 pm in the Community Room on the lower level of the Library throughout the months of February and March. All Winter Lecture Series programs are free for the public to attend.
