Kappler Collection

The Kappler Collection consists of 29 color photographs (photographer unknown) showing scenes from the fire that destroyed the Barsi Building, aka the Mellott Building, located at 3315 Belmont Street. The fire occurred on December 1, 2007. The Time-Leader reported it was the largest fire “the village had seen in recent year with at least 15 different fire departments and more that 100 firefighters responding to a blaze that completely destroyed the structure and the two businesses inside it.” Neffs Fire Department was assisted by Cumberland Trail, Martins Ferry, Shadyside, Wheeling, Belmont, Bethesda, Brilliant, Brookside, Dillonvale, Lafferty, Morristown, Moundsville, and Sunset Heights fire departments to put the fire out.
