The Lois Pyle/J.W. Morrell Collection consists of black-and-white photographs depicting Bellaire, Ohio between 1900 and 1918. The scenes were photographed by Lois’ grandfather, J. W. Morrell. The collection contains prints of varying sizes, including many panoramic pictures of landscapes and river scenes.
This collection includes numerous Bellaire Ohio street scenes at Union Street, Belmont Street, Guernsey Street, Noble Street, Crescent Street, and 27th Street; Steamboats on the Ohio River including the Ohio, Queen City, Charon, Joe Fowler, American Boy, and the Manley Wharf; historical events including Theodore Roosevelt in Bellaire, Taft in St. Clairsville, Imperial Glass Factory construction; railroad photographs including the B & O River Bridge (original and during reconstruction), tracks at Klee Crossing, tracks at Georgetown B & O Bridge, and Pennsylvania Train Station; Bellaire buildings including 1st and 2nd City Buildings, Carroll Building, Christian Church, Globe Hotel, Union Savings Bank, First National Bank, Buckeye Savings Bank, Windsor Hotel, Imperial Glass, Kern Home, Presbyterian Church, Christian Church, Methodist Episcopal Church, Carnegie Mill and Glass Factories, Rodefer Home, Clark Home, Palace Grocery, Union School, Indian Run School, Bellaire Park, Trevey Funeral Home; disasters including floods scenes, Eastern Milling Co. fire, and McMahon Creek bridge trolley collapse; Wheeling Island, bridges, circus elephants, Epworth Park and Bethesda, Moundsville Mound, and Panorama from Benwood, W.Va.
The collection contains multiple photographs of many (if not all) of these subjects.
